Laboratory testing diagnosed Kya with a rare blood condition called aplastic anemia. Kya needed a bone marrow transport to survive and laboratory tests confirmed one of her sisters was a match. Laboratory test results later found she would need a second transplant three years after her first transplant. The second transplant was successful and Kya was able to enroll in college, work towards her passion for a career in television, and is healthy today.
